World Emoji Day

World Emoji Day was celebrated on July 17

The term “Emoji” is derived from the two Japanese words e (for picture) and moji (character). New emojis are developed on every year, and keeps track off all the emoji updates across all platforms and operating systems. There are nearly 1800 emoji’s covering more than emotions. From food, transportation, an assortment of wild and domesticated animals to social platforms, weather and many emoji’s are available.

They are increasingly influencing how users interact online. Big brands use them in advertising, there’s an emoji dictionary, and ‘emoji translator’ is now an actual job title.

To celebrate World Emoji Day, Facebook decided to find out exactly which emojis are used most around the world.
After all, Facebook is responsible for 60 million emojis every day and that’s excluding the five billion used on Messenger every day.

Emojis seem to best convey laughing - the LOL emoji with tears of laughter is the most widely used in the world, Facebook says. That’s followed by the love or heart-eyed emoji and the kissing emoji.
